This series evokes a television-mediated experience of nature, in this case the sky as a source of feelings of “the sublime”. With imagery that conflates the romantic sublime of the 18th century with the abstract sublime of 20th century Abstract Expressionism and Color-Field painting, the series suggests the degree to which the sentiments and imagery of past movements in high culture trickle down to and persist in popular culture as facile visual clichés.
